The Cat's Out of the Bag

In between painting yummy sweets I've decided to take forward something I've had on the back burner for a long time. Having been the lucky custodian of two gorgeous ragdoll cats
I couldn't ignore the temptation of producing some cat themed pieces. So, using them as my subject and a Gustav Klimt frieze I have had on my wall for some inspiration, I've created the following:
Golden Girls

Contentment

Good Friends
I've finished them off with an enamel coat which gives them an extra dimension.
I've enjoyed doing them so much I've just got to do some more. Watch this space.

Sugar Fix

Here's a message to those with a taste for sugar. It's a guilty pleasure, but don't worry. There's no calories in looking!

I hope these make your mouth water.

I saw one of these pieces framed last week by my distributor and the frame looks stunning!
I just wish I could see one in the galleries. Alas, I'm too busy painting the next one.

Sweet Dreams

I'm pleased to say that people are developing an appetite for my tasty delights.
I decided to increase the variety of subjects and go for a bit of drama.
These two latest pieces are 15"x40". Light plays a large part in these pieces in particular,
capturing the unique qualities transparent sweets have. The cellophane was great fun to work on and I can't wait to get on with some more. Only problem is...there's too many sweets around my home now!

Up close and personal

I've recently started a new range of photorealism pieces, some of which you can see here. It's something I've always enjoyed doing. I find it a great challenge to recreate something as near as possible to the original whilst adding a bit of drama. These particular pieces are 24" square and are in oils on board. I've chosen some fun subjects to work with-old toys and sweets. I put it on record now that I dont eat everything I paint!

The Name's Bond

I completed this piece earlier this week. It takes me back to my childhood. My older brother had one of these and I love the well used battered look. If reaction to this one is good I'm going to do a few more in the same style. Anyway, I'm off to play with the toys!

Welcome

Welcome to my world. I am a full time artist based in the Yorkshire Pennines. My work is sold through a network of UK based galleries and, occasionally through my website.           I intend to use this blog to show work that I am working on in the studio, whether it be work in progress or completed pieces.
As an artist I am very aware of how important feedback is from buyers and collectors. This site gives them and you an opportunity to see and share your thoughts with others.

Most of my waking hours are spent with brush in hand so I will endeavour to keep things fresh and up to date. You can also see the full range of work on my website: http://www.ajcallan.co.uk/ . I hope you enjoy what you see.
